The Challenge

During the redevelopment and refurbishment of the building Kiwa Fire Safety Compliance were enlisted to assist in retaining as much of the building’s original fabric whilst meeting regulatory compliance concerning life safety.

The Solution

We provided the client with a detailed assessment of the current and prospective conditions of the building, identifying areas of issue that would need to be resolved to meet building standards.

Taking into consideration the age of the building, historic changes and intended future use of the structure, we adopted a thorough holistic approach. This enabled compliance through the creative use of fire compartmentation, avoiding the overprovision of systems and ensuring minimal invasiveness at all times.

The Outcome

We produced a detailed review highlighting the issues presented with a building of historic significance and its intended use as a busy hotel.

Targeting effective and compliant alarm and detection systems and ensuring the integrity of compartments were among the key areas of discussion. Hawkstone Hall reopened for business in April 2019 and is proving to be a huge success.
