The Challenge
Healthcare institutions need to comply with HTM 81 in addition to the national Building Regulations, due to the complex and often health-specific environments created by NHS operations.
In order to ensure continued compliance, reviews may be undertaken to assess items such as structural design both as a desktop study and through condition based site inspections.
The Solution
The 430 bed teaching hospital in Chelsea, London has been operational since 1993. Our client requested a fire compartmentation review and we assisted in detailing both the current and potentially effective compartmentation lines of the site.
The Outcome
Working with the hospital was very fulfilling and they engaged energetically with the processes surrounding effective fire compartmentation.
Through a review of necessities and ‘nice-to-haves’ we were able to present a case for a number of recommendations that avoided overprovision and minimised unnecessary replacement of materials with proven integrity.
