 The Gherkin

30 St Mary Axe

30 St Mary Axe (formerly the Swiss Re Building, informally referred to as the Gherkin), is a skyscraper in London's financial district, the City of London and was completed in 2003. With 40 floors, the tower is 180 metres tall and stands on the former site of the Baltic Exchange building. The building was designed by Norman Foster and was erected by Skanska.

 GCHQ

GCHQ, Cheltenham

The UK Government Communications Headquarters building was opened in 2004 in Cheltenham in the UK. Locally known as the 'doughnut' because of its unique shape, the accommodation provides a first-class working environment.  With complex transverse atria, high population densities and numbers, extended travel distances and challenges of security versus means of escape this project was an interesting challenge.  IFC have worked for several years on the concept design through on site construction to final completion and handover with Gensler Architects and Carillion.  IFC have also advised on Halon replacement strategies at previous GCHQ sites and subsequent operational changes including max fit analysis to increase design population densities.

 Shell

Shell Downstream Building

As part of a project for the Shell Downstream Building, IFC provided fire engineering support to Dawe Geddes Architects, in particular in relation to the smoke ventilation requirements.

 Centre Point Centre Point Tower

Centre Point is a substantial concrete and glass office building in central London. The building was designed by Richard Seifert with engineers Pell Frischmann and was constructed by Wimpey Construction from 1963 to 1966. It is 117 m high, has 34 floors and 27,180 square metres of floor space and was one of the first skyscrapers in London. It is a grade II listed building.  IFC have carried out fire safety surveys and fire risk assessments for this building complex.
